-- The Celtfather Story… Rie Sheridan Rose came out to Sherwood Forest Faire this year. Rie and I have collaborated on a lot of songs over the years (check out show #210). It started with the song “Soul of a Harper” which she will tell you about in the next episode. From there, we wrote a Firefly song. Then she wrote over half of my lyrics for Don’t Go Drinking With Hobbits. She wrote all of the lyrics for Pirates vs. Dragons. It’s wonderful working with her.

She asked me at Sherwood if I wanted to do any new song collaborations. I thought about it for  a moment. One of Rie’s methods for writing songs for our hobbit album was to take traditional Irish songs and then writing them in that style.

I do that myself quite frequently. I find a great song, and I write something similar. I did it with “The Prettiest Hobbit”. That was based on the Irish song “I’ll Tell My Ma”.

But one song that is brilliant and timeless and there are not many songs like it is “Star of the County Down”. It’s just a delightful song to sing and a joyful story. So I asked Rie to write such a song either hobbit-like or Celtic or whatever. Hopefully, we’ll get something great.

In the meantime, I’m excited to share with you Rod Nevin’s own story about “Star of the County Down”. But first...
