WHO'S PLAYING IN THE PUB TODAY

0:31 - “Lily the Pink” from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales

4:09 - WELCOME

-- One of the reasons I picked this song is because I’ve had a lot of requests for it over the past few years because of its popularity with the Brobdingnagian Bards. Now of course, Andrew McKee, my partner with the Bards sang the song.

One of the other reasons why I picked this song was in case the Virtual Public House CD, volume 2 was a go. But first we gotta get to the Virtual Public House, maybe volume 1.

-- The Celtfather Story… Last year, I hired my audio editor to edit this podcast. I already had Mitchell editing the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. That’s been going for a while. But the Pub Songs Podcast has always had a lot more talking. And because there’s more talking, that also means there’s more editing to be done. Which means it’s more expensive to produce.

I was trying to think of a way to either cut expenses or bring in more money when I realized in every show, I sing 2-3 songs. I should do something with them. And maybe if I publish an album, it will earn enough to fund the shows for each Quarter of the year. So that’s what I did.

Virtual Public House is the name of my brand new album. You’ll get 23 tracks. All of the songs were recorded and performed during the first three months episodes of 2021 on Pub Songs & Stories. Every time you buy one of these CDs, it will help fund the show.

If all goes well, I should have a new album to release each quarter highlighting songs from the previous quarter.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s see what you think of THIS album. You can buy it in my store at MageRecords.com. If you are a member of the Gunn Runners Club, then you can even use your discount code to save on CD purchases.

I thought about releasing this album on Vinyl. But unfortunately, it is far too long for that.

And why do even bother mentioning vinyl? Well, on May 6, you will be able to buy As Long As I’m Flyin on vinyl. Yes. I am talking about a record. Like if you were talking about a record player. That’s exactly what I just did.

I noticed my CD producer, Kunaki, now allows artists to sell vinyl records. I got all excited and decided to release my newest album. Then I realized, it’s been a while since I released a full production album.

Anyway, you can find that in my Mage Record store.

8:34 -  Laughing Jack Story: How a little eavesdropping on a conversation led to a fun pub song and a round of beer for the band.

11:45 - “I’m Not Irish” by Laughing Jack from Live at the Indy Folk Series

15:07 - Will and Jake Thorne Story: They share how Irish Americans were refugees and how they're giving back to help the millions of world-wide refugees currently displaced from their native lands.

17:28 - “Where the Wild Shamrocks Grow” by Turf Fire Liars from Long Memories Short Fuses

21:56 – Marc Gunn Story: What is Star Wars Day?

Star Wars is on May 4. It celebrates George Lucas's Star Wars media franchise. The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" as "May the Fourth be with you". Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday.

You find the full history of Star Wars Day on Wikipedia.

23:05 - “Jedi Drinking Song” from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales

-- New Irish & Celtic Song Lyrics. I updated the lyrics for all of the songs I sing in this show. You will find lyrics and chords so you can play along with me. Just click the song title to find the lyrics or follow the link in the shownotes to find more Irish & Celtic song lyrics.
